Hi! Just before our son was born, we've been hoarding books to share with him. As his library grows, friends and family have been asking us for recommendations and for details about what we've collected so far, so we decided to share that information here by featuring books that we've given the very prestigious—and not at all imaginary—Shining Star Award.
But
before diving into all that, here's a little about us first. My name is
Neha Patel, and I'm a pediatric ear, nose, and throat surgeon. My
husband is Sam J. Royale, and he's a comic book creator and graphic
designer. He's more creative and introverted, and I'm more high energy
and extroverted, and this duality was echoed in our wedding's sun and
moon theme. Our son is named after the brightest star in the sky, and
he's also the brightest star in our lives.
I'll introduce our Shining Star Award Winners with the our son's age when he started enjoying these books, but please note that every child is different. What one child likes at 9 months, another may not be into by 12 months. What another child enjoys at 2 years, one child may not enjoy until age 4 years. And there's also the possibility that a kid's interests and tastes are entirely different and none of these books click with them. But on the other hand, we enjoy the books in this collection even as middle-aged adults. (Please don't judge us too harshly!)
